Tata Indicom Broadband announces Fair Usage Policy

We were afraid of this and this has happened.

After Airtel Broadband, Tata Indicom has announced its own Fair Usage Policy.

TCISL Fair Usage Policy (TCISL FUP) states:

The evolving internet broadband scenario in India necessitates the management of limited high-speed bandwidth and network resources in the larger interests of Customers. In line with the practice followed by major international Internet Service Providers and in its continuous endeavor to provide best possible Broadband Internet experience to all its customers, TCISL adopts a Fair Usage Policy (TCISL FUP) with an intent to ensure that the excessive bandwidth usage by a small segment of customers does not impact service quality for a large set of customers. 

TCISL FUP is applicable to all existing and future unlimited plans offered by TCISL unless specifically withdrawn at the discretion of TCISL. Taking into consideration the maximum reasonable usage required by the average user, Tata Indicom Broadband has established a monthly data transfer threshold (Fair Usage Limit) for the various unlimited tariff plans as given below:

What happens when a customer crosses the limit?

Data transfer in excess of Fair Usage Limit as per the applicable tariff plan shall be treated as a violation of TCISL FUP.

Upon such violation of FUP, TCISL shall contact the Customer suggesting for reduction in usage or upgrade to a higher bandwidth plan.

Despite the above, if the customer fails to upgrade to a high speed plan or continue to violate the TCISL FUP, TCISL reserves the right to suspend or terminate the customer’s account immediately without prejudice to other rights available to TCISL under these Terms and Conditions.

    • You are right sir Tata Broadband is not here to do internet business they are heree to do blackmail business,irst of all they disconnect the connection on purpose and then harass customers by calling them day and night for renewals. 67250601 are the numbers these blackmailer call from.And they have also employed goondas like one Mr Bhavesh who calls up people and threatens them.

    We are in very big problem and I think our future is in danger.

    And I think Our Telecoms Authority have no control on these Corporates and no respect from these Corporates.

    We Have to do more than sitting on home and I think it is better to discuss with Consumer disputes related Big persons in our localities.

  • Now the time we react to the corporate companies against “Fair Usage Policy”. All broadband users won’t pay the money for one month. This is the best policy for against corporates. All of you agree.

  • What if and when the broadband connectivity falls below the threshold speed? Will TATAs compensate in any way? I think TRAI/DoT needs to kick the bottoms of these service providers or, better still, impose penalty.

  • Why the hell (definetly wanted to write something else) do you have to call it ‘unlimited’?? Say 45 GB/month@ 256kbps or whatever put up over there, and we would probably be happier. At least it wouldnt be any sort of blackmailing!!

    or.. get the dictionary meaning of word ‘unlimited’ changed! I mean, why is there a limit on an ‘unlimited’ plan????

  • Isnt there any way to complain to the TRAI so that i puts TATA back into its place ? TATA is definitely one of the most unethical companies out there. No longer does an Indian respect the name TATA, infact we detest it.

  • Ankit TRAI will do nothing they will just forward the letter to a TATA Nodal officer who being a employee of TATA will just overlook it.TRAI has no powers and is a TOOTHLESS organization.

  • As per TRAI they are facing loss. since during peak hours many users uses internet which hampered the internet service to other user. Inorder to maintain balance they established this technique which wil resolve the problem. But in technical language it will favour the high end user (Co, Business) & for the benifit of TRAI. conclusion: Consuner like us is only a Jack for them & king will enjoy all the benefit & possibly correct we can’t do anything.

  • I think this a pure blackmail by these assh@@es tatas they speak of corporate governance on end and they blackmail there users on other end waah!!!. Ratan tata is a big hypocrite as far as i am concerned.Also they should have informed this to us because now i am using this shitty broadband plan 256 unlimited for months and first month in 15 days i got a call from their foolish call center that they have imposed a limit of 45000 MB which includes download and upload what the hell!!!.Any fool can understand that a power user downloads a 2 GB per day on a 256 line which goes to about 60 GB just download and i haven’t even included my upload.I think INDIA SUCKSSS BIG TIME.

  • Tata Indicom is cheating customers in every possible way. They deliberately delay the Photon+ activation/installation so that they can charge lumsum amount in the name of pro-rata even after offering free 10GB data. No one explains you what is pro-rata and how the bill will be calculated and you get a shock when you receive the first bill. After getting a connection @ Rs.4000 and using it for only 6 days Tata Indicom has barred my connection and slapped a bill of Rs.15000 even after I used below the 10 GB limit. How can they charge for something which they are offering as free?

  • I just wanna find out dat after their fair usage policy has been implemented has anyone come across a situation where their internet gets disconnected everyday after a certain amount of data transfer takes place..

    wen i m downloading heavy it happens but after dat it gets dc for few hours and resumes later on in quite a consistent pattern..

    i even tried by not downloading for a few days and during those days there was no disconnection.

    so just wanna know is any1 else facing the same problem after this sucking fair usage policy of theirs.

    i just wanna go to someother isp but these bloody tata guys have taken d rights for my whole are and no other isp comes.(i dont think its officially possible but dats d scenario from the last one year). so i guess they must have done smething.

      I used to have 4mbps night unlimited plan(225 hrs during day). U r right, they frequently disconnect internet in the middle of the night. I stayed awake a few nights and confirmed it. First class cheating. Airtel is atleast ok, they have a policy(which sucks by the way). But this TATA guys do cheap tricks. I use BSNL now.

        Cannt we go to Consumer-Court and can file a joint complaint against them…? As they have taken money in advance in the name of UNLIMITED -plans but now these bhaadw@@s are doing like this.

  • Before taking up a ISP I decided to have a look at the broadband forums to find the various ISP in Pune

    I took up the TATA Indicom ( wired ) broadband services in Pune. Now it seems all the stories are coming true to me..

    I paid hard cash so that they wouldn't need to clear the money through cheque.. The guy from tata broadband who collected the
    registration forms told me they require 5 days to install the Cable line.

    Even after 25 days they have not yet installed the broadband. I paid them Installation ( 1000 Rs) + Deposit ( 1000 Rs ) + 1
    months advance payment 1000 Rs + 12.5 servie Tax ( 250 Rs to the Blood and sweat sucking Govt from which Of course there is

    nothing that I or we can expect ) . The total amount came to 3250 Rs ..

    I called the service guy many a times.every time he would say that an engineer is being sent say around 3:30 PM .. then from

    3:30 PM I would find his cell phone off till the next day ..

    The month is about to be over for which I have already paid the advance payment..So it seems that my 1000 Rs advance payment

    has already gone down the dirty TATA drain as I have to still go into Cybercafe for internet

    I am planning to cut off the broadband connection as soon as it is installed. My money and time both are lost.. if YOU

    wouldn't like to waste your time and send money down the dirty drain don't never ever install TATA BROADBAND.

    Characteristics of the TATA Broadband services :

    1.) If the TATA guys comes and tries to get cheque / money from you in a hurriedly ( hasty ) manner agreeing to everything

    you say then he is planning to screw you up your ass at any cost.

    2.) He would tell you that he would install the Cable on the 5 day then he means that install it on the 25th day or

    thereafter.. Some smarty tata guy would tell they would install the next day or as soon as possible .. all these means the

    same.

    3.) You would ring him on his cell phone . he would readily pick up the phone addressing you as Sir or Madam and would tell

    you that he is sending the guy at 4:30 PM .. It means that you would find his cell phone from that time till infinity

    4.) every time you would ask about the status of your connection. They will make excuses that they have lot many connections

    to install.

    5.) You might not get the Service or the broadband .. but these beggars will send the bill on time, that is for sure

  • Tata has done it . My request also to the administrator to include tata indicom in the petition and also ato any lawyer or activists to file a case aganst theses two ISPs for misleading advertisements.

  • I got a call yesterday saying that my liits are exceeded and if I dont restrict my downloads my connection will be suspended. This is clearly unethical. FUP sucks. We need to file a petition to TRAi as FUP is not discussed while installation.

    Indicom are biggest unethical company of the world, even my usage is less than the prescribed fair usage policy they are asking me to upgarde or they will terminate the connection
