Our feedback to Times of India regarding Airtel Fair Usage Policy

Are we a bunch of wussies protesting against Airtel Fair Usage Policy on Twitter? #airtelsucks

So, we are running this protest on Twitter against the recently updated Airtel Broadband plans with rather disturbing fair usage policies.

We are asking folks to hashtag their complaints against the company with #airtelsucks to become part of this movement.

A couple of folks are not amused. I have heard a couple of questions… Let me answer some of them here. Feel free to post your new questions in the comments below.

About the #airtelsucks campaign on Twitter

We have been trying to get all the tweets related to problems and annoyances with Airtel services hashtaged with #airtelsucks on Twitter.

The idea is to have an easy way to identify the problems faced by Airtel customers. We are primarily focused on their broadband customers though.

Anyways… Our campaign would continue till the time Airtel realizes that their impatient branded plans are not suitable for a lot of customers who are looking for TRULY UNLIMITED BROADBAND PLANS WITH NO FUP CRAP.

We plan to continue with this protest till the time we get what we want!

And we are pretty sure that we are not being unreasonable here.

Reason behind Airtel Fair Usage Policy? #airtelsucks

Airtel Broadband has a weird reason behind implementing Fair Usage Policy on their internet plans.

You want to know what the reason is?

Cyber Cafes

Airtel claims that cyber cafe owners take the residential plans and use them for commercial purposes.

Me: Why FUP? Airtel: Cause people open cyber cafes on residential plans. Me: :|less than a minute ago via DestroyTwitter

In other words… Airtel Broadband agents cheat by selling residential plans to commercial customers. And we consumers suffer as a result.

Airtel’s incompetency is the reason why we have to deal with fair usage policy on their network.

Airtel Broadband censors the web for their customers

Airtel continues to do more damage to their reputation.

It has already annoyed us all with the AFUP (Airtel Fair Usage Policy).

It has also been known to block third party VoIP Services.

The latest news in is that the company has now started censoring the web for their customers.

One user on the India Broadband Forum has reported that some sites are now blocked on Airtel internet connections.

These sites are well not really suitable for viewing in public places. But they are definitely not a threat to national security.

Airtel announces 16Mbps Plans. Consumers collectively Yawn.

In an attempt apparently to try to recoup some of its ever-sagging reputation, (as per news reports) Airtel has introduced / will be introducing, and is advertising new plans with 16Mbps speeds. But don’t get too excited. Unfortunately the plan comes with a crushing rider – Data download limits, being 20GB (Rs. 2,999 p.m.) and 50GB (Rs. 4,999 p.m.) (not inclusive of taxes). Yes… you read that right – 20GB and 50GB. For your convenience here’s a quick calculation (All figures approximate):
