The thing that should be done is the goverment should step in. and some regulations must be put in place. regulations like you have to provide your coustomers not less then... or some other rules which the telecom companies have to follow if they want to do buisness in india. in my view for a country to grow the people should be upto date. there for internet should be everyones right. and i mean decent service!!! not this crap!

Most fair use policies on unlimited plans state that thruput may be reduced to ensure everyone has access. In this case even if there was spare capacity you would be limited which hardly seems in the spirit of fair use.
Further the airtel operator told me that they had worked this out in conjunction with all the other ISPs, which should be illegal even in India no? whether it was just a lying sop to customers I dont know, but surely oligopolies are not allowed though I wouldnt be surprised given the generall anarchic (free) quality of Indian civilization.
BTW I just came back from the USA where for the price of airtels 1mbit connection you get 6 although upload is .75mbit.

Airtel is the most useless company when it comes to fair usage policies....
On contacting the Customer Care, they generally ac as if there is nothign cslled the FUP. Right to information ?? oh sorry , we only have the right to fill Sunil Mittal's pocket. With NO respect to him, all i can say is appeal to you guys to disconnect Airtel and use anything. Encourage MTNL/BSNL. Atleast they don't cheat the customer !!

Its just ridiculous, one basically cannot get a truly 'unlimited' and/or 'unmetered' broadband connection in this country. The only solution is to have 2 512 kbps connections and that 2 from 2 different providers so if goes down you have another one... ultimately, you'll have 2 machines to do all the data transfer one needs.

any data transfer is counted.

in fact from what i know, airtel counts in 10KB units.

so even if you use 1KB in a session, it is counted as 10KB...
